Tears

This sculpture was created after the artist visited the concentration camp Flossenberg. It was a beautiful place, like a botanical garden, until one realized that the tall ivy-covered wall was the remnants of a watchtower. And the tiny, innocuous sign to the left of the entrance announced in delicate letters, "Crematorium this way". Somewhere on the grounds the artist stumbled upon a mound of earth walled off by stones. The sign whispered that within this mound were the ashes of 100,000 people. One hundred thousand people! Incomprehensible! The sculpture "Tears" is a memorial to the people buried in this Flossenberg grave.
